HΛV

is a Nordic flute and guitar duo, which consists of the Finnish flutist Marianne Sihvonen and the Faroese guitarist Alvi Joensen.

They are an ambitious and forward looking duo which has premiered several new pieces by Nordic composers, such as Sunleif Rasmussen, Ville Raasakka and Ylva Fred, and is constantly working with new ones. The duo focuses especially on addressing and processing environmental issues through newly written music.

Their productions ‘Lyssna på våra hav’ and ‘Jorden i mig’ were the starting points for the duo and the first mentioned inspiration for their name. Through these productions the duo established their profile as a prominent and dynamic duo. As a young duo they have already been performing in several notable concert scenes, such as KoncertKirken and Metronomen in Copenhagen, Malmö Live and Inter Arts Center in Malmö, Baltic Sea Science Center in Stockholm, Odeum in Lund, Nordic House in Tórshavn and Art Chapel in Turku. In addition to their own productions and newly written music they also enjoy playing the fascinating standard repertoire for flute and guitar.

Marianne Sihvonen, flute

Marianne Sihvonen is a luminous Finnish flutist who is passionate about giving a voice to the works of living composers. She has premiered several new works by a new generation of composers. Marianne performs actively as a freelance musician around the Nordic countries. During the year 2022 she has performed at venues such as Ainola Museum in Järvenpää, Sibelius Museum in Turku, the Mustarinda House in Hyrynsalmi, Estonia concert hall and played several operas at the Alexander Theatre in Helsinki.

In autumn 2022 she started studying in a contemporary performance Master program, called CoPeCo, at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon and Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. She also studies her diploma at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.

Alvi Joensen, guitar

Alvi Joensen is a versatile guitarist with a passion for contemporary art music. For his diploma exam concert he commissioned a guitar concerto from the renowned Swedish composer Staffan Storm. The concerto is called “Distant Fires” and was premiered by the Swedish string orchestra Musica Vitae and the internationally acclaimed percussionist Johan Bridger. In 2021 Alvi Joensen released his debut album Lost Gems, consisting of the rarely played pearls on the verge of oblivion. His passion for new music has lead him on the path of composition which he started studying fall 2022 in Malmö Academy of Music.
